Unique Students Require Unique Solutions

I work with families and school support teams to ensure that kids with learning challenges can thrive throughout their school experience and into adulthood.  If your child is struggling and you're feeling unsure about what to do next- let me be your guide.

About me:

Kaycee Lindeman
M.S.Ed, AET

Educational Therapist, Parent, Advocate

"Children do well if they can. If they can't, it's up to us as adults to figure out what's getting in the way so we can help."
-Ross Greene

"What do you want to be when you grow up?"  In every entry of the baby book my mother kept, my answer was "Teacher."

My desk, bag, and locker- not at all impeccable, as I was a 'smart but scattered' student. This was frustrating not only for my parents and teachers, but also for me.  I was a good student with book smarts, social skills, and a lot of hidden anxiety about what I may have forgotten to do or the project I couldn't bring myself to start.

I taught special education and ESL, then supervised candidates in a university teacher preparation program, and teaching has been my life's passion. The responsibility to do right by every learner has been my ultimate motivation. But my best learning has taken place as I live those lessons as a parent, and also as I've reflected on my own areas of scattered strengths and weakness.

After my son was diagnosed with ADHD, I spoke with our doctor about my own 'absent minded professor' tendencies, and looked at my struggles to execute mundane tasks, stop procrastinating, and stay organized through a new lens.  Every person has a unique neurological profile, and I am happy to be able to inform and support those who are not easily supported by the typical systems around us.

For those of use with a learning difference- ADHD, autism, mood disorders, learning disabilities- or 'just' executive functioning challenges, practicing strategies, supports, and self-advocacy can greatly improve confidence and quality of life.

What is going on in schools? Are we meeting the needs of all students? What questions should we be asking?  I love talking to people about topics that add to our understanding of parenting and education, so we can work together to support all learners. I call it "backward planning for adulting" and have a particular passion for increasing independence in twice exceptional students, those with ADHD, autism, anxiety, and executive functioning issues.

Executive Functioning Support and Direct Consultation

Arguing about missing assignments, e-learning, or working independently? Does your child need a lot of prompting and struggle to manage their time? Are you told your child is 'unmotivated' or 'needs a lot of prompting and redirection?'
My goal is to have your child take the lead in solving problems over time through a collaborative approach.
Together, we will:
  • learn how executive functioning deficits can impact planning, motivation, and performance
  • tackle challenges by meeting regularly to problem solve, practice, reflect on habits and adjust as needed.
  • create a list of recommendations that you can share with your child's teacher or tutors.

I believe the best way I can describe Kaycee's support for me and my daughter is this..When I was at my wits end, and the anger I felt towards my school district was affecting my ability to be my daughter's advocate, Kaycee became my voice. I feel that she truly cares about my daughter and her future. As we continue our partnership, I feel my daughter's high school career is in very capable hands. Thank you for everything, Kaycee..

KayCee is a wonderful advocate and a source of so much knowledge of the special education system and the laws in place to help our children thrive in school. She helped us navigate the IEP process by reviewing testing scores and read the school reports, and then gave us recommendations for the meeting. I highly recommend her services and will definitely use them again in the future!

I can’t say enough positive things about Kaycee’s work! She is extremely knowledgeable, responsive and organized. We had the opportunity to work with her at our daughter’s recent IEP meeting. She helped us navigate the meeting, understand the IEP process and push for additional testing. We couldn’t have done it with her!

Kaycee has been working with my fifteen year old freshman who struggles with some executive functioning. She has helped him with approaches to organize himself and take the stress out of managing his workload. She’s wonderful to work with and my teenager really liked her too. Highly recommended.

We'd been told by several school staff that my son wouldn't qualify for an IEP because he had good test scores. Kaycee helped us request an evaluation and present the full picture to the school team. He qualified for an IEP and finally has support at school.  We will not only continue consulting her about his plan, we have also decided to have him work with her directly! It has made a big difference and we are very grateful.

Kaycee really knows her stuff! Not only was she able to help me through the IEP process for my elementary school age daughter, but she was able to recommend additional testing and therapies. She is great at helping parents navigate what would have been a completely overwhelming and frustrating process. And, most importantly she really cares about your child and your family. She follows through and is dependable.
